The mother of the ex-president of Moldova is accused of colluding with him for the purpose of illegal enrichment

The press service of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office of Moldova reported that the mother of ex-president Igor Dodon was charged with conspiracy to illegal enrichment.

On May 24, employees of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office detained former President Dodon, whom the authorities suspect of involvement in corruption, illegal enrichment, financing the party through a criminal organization, and treason.

The next day, he was formally charged, and since then Dodon has been under house arrest. On June 16, the prosecutor’s office filed charges of conspiracy to illegally enrich the ex-president’s wife, Galina Dodon.

The Prosecutor General’s Office reported: “Some relatives of the former president are under investigation for complicity in the crime of illicit enrichment. As a result of searches conducted in the places of residence of these persons, goods, money and documents were found that were allegedly used to commit crimes or were the result of these actions. The state prosecutor for combating corruption, the mother of the former head of state, applied to the allegations of conspiracy to illicitly enrich her.”

According to the prosecutor’s office, during a search of her house, 689.6 thousand lei (more than $35.7 thousand), 17.5 thousand euros and 1 thousand dollars were found.
