Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on Western threats to ban Russian gold, saying that if one market loses its appeal, others will emerge.
“The precious metals market is global, it is very large, huge and very diverse. Like all other goods, if the market loses its appeal due to illegal decisions, it can be redirected to where there is demand for the product and corresponding economic systems,” a Russian official told reporters on Monday, “and legitimacy.”
Earlier, the European Union announced that it was studying the possibility of imposing a ban on the import of gold from Russia, and before that, the UK government announced that, together with the United States, Canada and Japan, it would ban the import of Russian gold as part of new sanctions against Moscow.
