The Japanese government approved a ban on the import of Russian gold

The Japanese Ministry of Finance said in a press statement that the government has approved a ban on the import of Russian gold, and the timing of the entry into force of these restrictions will be determined later.

The statement added: “A ban has been introduced on the import of minerals (gold) from the Russian Federation.”

Russia is one of the largest exporters of gold in the world: according to Russian customs, at the end of 2021, Russia exported about 302 tons of the precious metal worth $17.36 billion.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden announced that the United States and the G7 countries would impose a ban on the import of Russian gold.
