Netanyahu wrote on his Twitter account: “In cooperation with the Minister of Construction and Housing, Yitzhak Goldknopf, we decided today in the government to build a new settlement in the Gaza Strip.”

He added: “The establishment of the new settlement is further proof of the resilience of the Gaza border region and the strength of the State of Israel.”

Previously, the new right-wing government pledged to continue settlement operations in Palestinian lands, despite warnings from the US administration.

Netanyahu has announced that his new government supports settlement construction on the condition that it is carried out legally and with prior approval from government agencies and agencies in his country, and has pledged to legalize dozens of settlement areas that were built without official permission. until the end of February.

And US Ambassador to Israel Thomas Nydes previously confirmed in a press interview on January 18 that US President Joe Biden’s administration does not support Israeli settlement expansion because it undermines the two-state solution.

Israel has established some 140 settlements, home to some 600,000 Jews, since occupying the West Bank and East Jerusalem during the 1967 war.
