The head of the German Interior Ministry called for the exclusion of the Russian team from Euro 2024

German Interior Minister Nancy Wieser has sent a letter to European Football Association (UEFA) President Alexander Shiffrin urging Russia and Belarus to be excluded from the 2024 European Championship.

“Russia, which violates international law, and Belarus, the main ally of the Russian leadership, should be excluded from all international football tournaments,” the minister’s letter says.

“Football must reaffirm its responsible role and demonstrate a unified stance against human rights violations. All perpetrators should be denied every opportunity to express themselves, influence or otherwise represent themselves,” she added.

Earlier, the International Football Association (FIFA) and the European Football Association issued a joint statement, according to which Russian teams and clubs are suspended from participation in all international competitions for an indefinite period.
