The head of the Czech Foreign Ministry supported the ban on the issuance of Schengen visas to Russians

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky expressed support for a proposal to ban the issuance of Schengen visas to Russian citizens against the background of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, which is being discussed in the European Union.

“The suspension of the issuance of visas to Russian citizens by EU member states could be another effective punishment,” the Czech news agency CTK quoted the minister as saying.

He added that in the light of the continuation of the Russian operation in Ukraine, “there is no need to talk about normal tourism for Russians.”

He recalled that the Czech Republic was one of the first countries to suspend the issuance of visas to Russian citizens after the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine.

German government spokesman Steffen Hepstrait said at a press conference in Berlin on Wednesday that the EU is discussing an initiative to suspend the issuance of visas to Russians, which was introduced by some of its members.
