The G7 are discussing the issue of setting a price ceiling for Russian oil

The White House announced its refusal to clarify whether the ban on Russian oil imports to the US will be lifted if G7 ministers agree to set a ceiling on Russian oil prices.

“I don’t expect to meet tomorrow,” White House press secretary Karen-Jean-Pierre said when asked if the United States would consider lifting the embargo on Russian oil imports if the G7 agreed to a plan to curb oil prices.

She was also asked whether Washington fears that the European Union’s embargo on offshore shipments of oil and petroleum products from Russia, postponed until December, could lead to higher energy prices if the G7 fails to agree on a plan on September 2, 2019. – answered Pierre: “I will not go into hypothetical possibilities … they will discuss this issue.”

She noted that US President Joe Biden and other G7 leaders instructed their countries’ finance ministers to develop “a mechanism to limit world prices for Russian oil.” “As I said, G7 finance ministers will meet and we will see what happens,” she added.
