The European Union is discussing the possibility of lifting sanctions on some Russian figures, since lawyers in the Union have come to the conclusion that the restrictions and measures were introduced on unconvincing grounds.
This is stated in the message of the Bloomberg agency, citing informed sources. The agency said: “The European Union is discussing the lifting of sanctions imposed on certain Russian individuals, as the union’s lawyers found that the sanctions could have been applied without sufficient grounds.”
According to sources, about 30 people filed a lawsuit against the European Union with a request to be removed from the sanctions lists, while 10 people filed a similar request directly with the European Union, in total 41 lawsuits were filed in courts in relation to EU sanctions.
The sources said that at a meeting on Wednesday, EU legal officials informed the permanent representatives of the coalition that some of these demands are justified.
The sources added: “Information provided by individuals subject to sanctions indicates that the evidence supporting the sanctions was either weak, outdated or false.”
