The United Nations has announced that the Ukrainian energy system is in a critical situation, as its generating capacity has been halved compared to 2022.

“According to the report of the United Nations Development Program and the World Bank, Ukraine’s energy system is in critical condition and continues to operate in an emergency mode with limited capacity,” Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General Farhan Haq said. , during a press conference on Tuesday.

“The damage is estimated at over $10 billion,” he added. The report, which was prepared shortly before the destruction of the Kakhovskaya station, indicates that since the beginning of the conflict, 42 of the 94 generators in (Ukrainian) government-controlled territory have been destroyed or damaged by missile or drone strikes.

“Power generation capacity is down about 50% from 2022 levels,” the spokesman said.
