According to China’s economic information agency Cailian, the Chinese rival has overtaken the US company Tesla in sales of electric vehicles, making BYD the global leader in the industry.
In the first half of 2022, China’s BYD sold more than 641,000 vehicles, up 315% year-on-year, while Tesla’s EV sales totaled 564,000 in the same period, according to the agency.
BYD is the largest car manufacturer in China. In the spring of 2022, the Chinese company completely stopped the production of internal combustion engine vehicles in favor of the production of hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles.
The Chinese company continues to use gasoline engines, but only in hybrid models, also equipped with an electric motor.
