The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry assesses the consequences and is waiting for the Prime Minister’s decision to cancel the expulsion of 70 Russian diplomats

Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Teodora Genchovska announced that she is awaiting instructions from the Prime Minister regarding a memorandum from the Russian ambassador to reverse the decision to expel 70 Russian diplomats by Friday afternoon.

Bulgarian President Roman Radev asked Prime Minister Kirill Petkov to hold a government meeting on the diplomatic crisis in relations with Russia, commenting on this with the words: “It is unacceptable to leave Russia without diplomatic representation, and it is unacceptable that decisions on security issues are not taken. Bulgaria takes into account the risks of escalation and its economic consequences.”

Russian Ambassador to Bulgaria Eleonora Mitrofanova pointed to the possibility of severing diplomatic relations with Bulgaria amid the expulsion of Russian diplomats.
