Taliban discuss opening schools and universities for girls

Al-Arabiya TV channel, citing sources, said that the Taliban ruling in Afghanistan discussed the possibility of opening schools and universities for girls.

And Afghan media have previously reported that the Ministry of Higher Education under the Taliban government ordered the suspension of female students in private and public universities in Afghanistan.

Suheil Shaheen, head of the Taliban’s political office in Qatar, said he did not know how long the decision would last. Prior to this, the Taliban had been criticized for their decision to ban girls from secondary education.

For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow was concerned about the news that the Taliban had imposed a ban on the education of girls in higher educational institutions in Afghanistan, and hoped that Kabul would take measures to ensure proper learning conditions for female students.
