Today, Monday, elements of the Taliban sang victory songs in the capital Kabul near the former US Embassy headquarters to celebrate the anniversary of the movement’s return to power in Afghanistan.

“This great victory came after countless sacrifices and trials,” Deputy Prime Minister and one of the founders of the Taliban, Abdul Ghani Baradar, tweeted. Afghans for their independence.

“This is a day of victory and happiness for Afghan Muslims and the Afghan people. This is the day of the conquest and victory of the white flag of the Islamic Emirate,” Taliban government spokesman Bilal Karimi tweeted.

Dozens of officers were photographed at Ahmed Shah Massoud Square, a large intersection adorned with large white flags across from the former US embassy headquarters and leading to the airport. During a spontaneous gathering in this square, they chanted: “Long live the Islamic Emirate! Lord is great!”

On the streets of the capital, traffic was light and the population was calm, except for the passing trucks with Taliban militias carrying Islamic Emirate flags, which was also seen in Kandahar, the historical stronghold of the Taliban. in the south of the country.

Some women in Kandahar wore a burqa, carrying emirate flags.
