Sweden’s prime minister resigns hours after being elected

Magdalena Andersson, Sweden’s first female prime minister, resigned just hours after she was elected.

And the Swedish parliament approved Andersen as prime minister, after which the deputies refused to support the draft budget proposed by the opposition.

Anderson initially said that she could lead the country with this budget, but the Greens opposed this and withdrew from the coalition.

“I don’t want to lead a government whose legitimacy is doubtful,” Anderson said at a press conference.

Parliament speaker Andreas Norlin confirmed the resignation of the prime minister and said he would contact the leaders of other parties for consultations.
