Sweden: NATO accession talks could take a year

Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson has announced that negotiations to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) could take one year.

In statements she made in the Spanish capital Madrid on the sidelines of a NATO summit as a special invitee to the summit, Anderson added that she “made it clear to Turkey that her country will abide by international law regarding extradition.”

For her part, Swedish Foreign Minister Anne Linda told the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that her country “takes Turkey’s concerns about terrorism seriously.”

And she added: “Her country and Finland agreed with Turkey not to support the PKK, Kurdish YPG and supporters of Fethullah Gülen.”
