Surprising Twist: Messi Makes Shocking Decision Shortly After Signing with Inter Miami

After shocking the football world last Wednesday by announcing his move to Inter Miami USA, Lionel Messi returned on Tuesday to surprise his fans and confirm that the 2022 World Cup was the last of his career.

Messi finally got the only major piece of titles he lacked in his illustrious career when he led Argentina to victory at the last World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

Messi confirmed in a statement to Chinese newspaper Nitan on Tuesday that the World Cup in Qatar was the last World Cup of his career.

When Al-Bargut was asked about the possibility of participating in the 2026 World Cup, he replied: “I don’t think so.”

He added: “This (2022 World Championship) was my last World Championship. I’ll see how things go, but in principle no, I won’t go to the next World Cup”, States of America, Canada and Mexico.

Messi explained that he “would like to be there to watch” the competition in 2026, but “would not participate”.

Despite his decision not to compete in the next World Cup ahead of his 38th birthday, Messi appears poised to help Argentina defend the Copa América title in the next edition of the tournament, which will also take place on American soil in the summer of 2024.

As in the World Cup final in which he lost the 2014 final to Germany, Messi suffered several setbacks at the Copa América, falling three times on the last hurdle before succeeding on his fourth attempt to take the title in the Brazil-hosted version in 2021.
