Sterling says goodbye to Manchester City fans with touching message

English international striker Raheem Sterling confirmed his departure from Premier League champions Manchester City on Wednesday, in a new sign of his imminent move to Chelsea.

Sterling said goodbye to the Manchester City fans with a touching message on his Twitter account: “Seven seasons, 11 major titles, a lifetime of memories. Which way!”

“I arrived in Manchester at the age of 20. Today I’m leaving a man. Thanks for your sincere support. It was an honor to wear the Manchester City jersey,” added the 27-year-old.

The player has not revealed his next destination, but is expected to be the first to join Chelsea, who were acquired by an investment group led by American billionaire Todd Behle, succeeding Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, who was forced to abandon his positions against the background of the Russian military operation in Ukraine.

And British newspapers indicated that Manchester City and Chelsea reached an agreement on signing the latter with Sterling on a five-year contract with the possibility of an additional season.

Sterling, who has played 77 international matches, will move for £47.5m, according to the Sky network, while other reports have suggested a £50m deal.

Sterling has won the English Premier League title four times with City since moving from Liverpool in 2015 and played a key role in the team in his first season at the Etihad Stadium.

The English winger has scored 131 goals in 337 appearances for City.
