Sri Lanka discusses with Russia the possibility of joining the regime "world" for payments

The Minister of Transport of Sri Lanka, Pandula Gunawardana, said that the authorities of his country are discussing the possibility of joining the Russian payment system Mir, and negotiations are underway through central banks.

In an interview with RIA Novosti, he said: “Our embassy is looking into this issue, because I know that the Russians want to simplify card payments in Sri Lanka … We will try to find a way, and we will try to get approval. from our central bank for this, and once approved, it will be possible.

He added that the Sri Lankan authorities want Russian tourists to be able to pay with the Mir card.

He continued, “Progress may be made in this area in the near future. Negotiations are underway with our central bank on this matter. When we get the bank’s approval, we will be able to announce it.”
