Sri Lanka asks Russia for a loan to buy oil products

Sri Lankan Transport Minister Pandula Gunawardana said his country is continuing talks with Moscow on obtaining a loan to buy Russian oil products to ease the fuel crisis in Sri Lanka.

“The authorities of Sri Lanka continue negotiations with Russia on obtaining a loan for the purchase of Russian fuel,” Gunawardana confirmed in an interview with Sputnik.

He added: “We can handle this crisis because in the previous months we faced a crisis, but now we are slowly recovering from the economic crisis and the currency crisis, and we want to get more support from Russia, and discussions are ongoing. very good.”

The Sri Lankan minister noted that his country’s former president, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, had previously approached Russian President Vladimir Putin for a loan to buy oil from Russia and alleviate the country’s fuel crisis.
