Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said China’s special envoy for the Ukraine crisis could play a positive role in facilitating peace talks.
“The Special Representative is certainly someone who understands the relevant issues and can play a positive role in promoting reconciliation and negotiations,” Mao Ning said.
On Wednesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The latter said that the conversation was long and intense, announcing the appointment of the Ukrainian ambassador to China.
During the conversation, the PRC President said that China would send a special government representative for Eurasian affairs to Ukraine and other countries for a detailed exchange of views on the political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.
Yu Jun, deputy director of the Department of Central Asia and Eastern Europe at the Chinese Foreign Ministry, told reporters on Wednesday that a special delegation to resolve the Ukraine crisis would be led by Li Hui, China’s special representative for Eurasian affairs and former Chinese ambassador to Russia.
