South Korea Expresses Displeasure to Chinese Ambassador in Beijing following Controversial Statements by Chinese Diplomat

Yonhap News Agency reported that the South Korean Foreign Ministry summoned the Chinese Ambassador to Seoul and informed him of its protest against the statements of the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman.

South Korea’s foreign ministry issued a statement after Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said earlier in the day that Beijing would not allow others to interfere by word of mouth, citing Yun’s interview with media the day before in which he expressed his disagreement. forcibly changing the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.

Wang also urged Seoul to adhere to the “one China” policy, saying that it is up to China to resolve the Taiwan issue.

“The speaker’s remarks should be condemned as crude diplomatic rhetoric that calls into question China’s national integrity,” she added.

In an interview with Reuters published on Wednesday, Yong said tensions over Taiwan, which China claims belong to him alone, are escalating over attempts to change the status quo by force, and that he supports the international community in resisting such a change. .

Yun also said that the issue of Taiwan is a global issue, just like the issue of North Korea.
