Sherin Abu Akle’s family: US refuses to conduct full investigation into her murder

A relative of the late Palestinian journalist Shirin Abu Akle said a senior diplomat in the administration of US President Joe Biden rejected her request to push for a full US investigation into her murder.

Lina Abu-Akleh said Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and US officials in meetings with her this week declined to provide more information than they had already announced about how the Americans arrived at the assassination results uncovered earlier this month.

A senior administration official confirmed to The Times of Israel that the United States will not launch its own investigation into the May 11 murder of the journalist.

The US State Department said on Tuesday that the bullet that killed Abu Akila was most likely fired from the Israeli side. She said: “Minister Anthony Blinken continues to discuss this issue with the Palestinian and Israeli sides.”

The US State Department added that “the bullet that killed her was fired primarily by Israeli soldiers and there is no indication that it was deliberately fired.”
