Serie A. Roma climb to fourth place

Roma regained their winning tone and moved up to fourth place thanks to a difficult and valuable 3-1 victory over hosts Verona today, Monday, at the end of the 12th stage of the Italian Football League competition.

Verona scored first through their Polish defender Pavel Davidovich in the 27th minute, but the latter prevented his team from maintaining the lead by sending him off in the 36th minute after he interfered with international midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo when the latter was on his way alone with goalkeeper Lorenzo Montepo.

Roma, who lost 0:1 in front of their guest, the leaders of Napoli, took advantage of the numerical disadvantage in the last stage and outplayed Verona, where in the minute “45 + 1” equalized through Zaniolo and then scored a progress goal through Cristian Volpato (88), before the addition Egyptian-born substitute and Italian, Stéphane El Shaarawy, scored the third goal in the second minute of stoppage time.

Rome capitalized on their neighbor Lazio’s 3-1 defeat at Salernitana on Sunday to finish fourth, one point back, to 25 points, while Verona suffered their seventh consecutive defeat and their ninth in this season.
