Security Council condemns attack on mosque in Herat, Afghanistan

The UN Security Council on Saturday condemned “in the strongest possible terms the continued terrorist attacks against civilians in Afghanistan, including the attack on the Jazargah mosque in the Afghan city of Herat” on Friday.

This is stated in a press statement released by the UN Security Council today, Saturday, which specified that at least 18 people were killed and many injured in the aforementioned attack, according to the Pakistani website Urdu Point.

Members of the Security Council expressed “sincere condolences to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy and full recovery to the victims.”

The members of the Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, emphasizing the need to bring to justice the perpetrators of these heinous acts of terrorism, their organizers, financiers and sponsors, and to hold them accountable .

In this context, they urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to actively cooperate with all relevant authorities in this regard.

The members of the Security Council reaffirmed that all acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motives, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed.

They affirmed “the need for all States to combat by all means, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and other obligations under international law, including international human rights law, international refugee law and international humanitarian law, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts” .
