Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder expressed confidence that Russia is committed to resolving the conflict in Ukraine through negotiations.
The former chancellor (who served from 1998 to 2005) said: “The good news is that the Kremlin really wants a negotiated solution. There was a negotiating track on the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, for example, in Istanbul in March. “
Schroeder noted that Turkey is providing great support in this matter, “just as it is now helping negotiations on grain exports.”
The ex-Chancellor of Germany stressed that the agreements on the export of grain from Ukrainian ports are the first important success.
He said: “Perhaps it will be possible to gradually expand it in order to reach a ceasefire agreement.”
