Russian senator doesn’t rule out unusual Beijing reaction to Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan

Russian Senator Olga Kovitedi did not rule out that Beijing would react to the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan bypassing traditional methods.

“China clearly warned the US when the Chinese said, ‘Whoever plays with fire will surely get burned,’” Kovitidi wrote on her Telegram channel, but the voice of reason is not heard by the arrogant US government.

She added: “Initially, the United States woke up the sleeping bear, Russia, now they are trying to set fire to the Chinese dragon. How this will turn out for the United States, we will soon see. I do not rule out that China’s response in this case will be out of the ordinary and may surprise the United States.”

She stressed that Pelosi’s visit was yet another provocation, noting “the fact that Nancy Pelosi, an anti-Chinese politician who publicly expresses support for the Hong Kong protests and meets with Chinese dissidents, has decided to go to Taiwan, in public defiance of China, the United States continues the dangerous practice of in crowding where no one asks for it and no one expects it.

She stressed that Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan represents an open political challenge and provocation by members of the US Congress at a tense time in US-China relations.

“Why is the United States provoking a new war? After all, will the third visit of the United States to Taiwan take the Sino-American tension to a new level?” asks Koftidi.
