Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Vershinin during a telephone conversation discussed with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths the mechanisms for implementing the grain deal.
The Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that special attention is being paid to the task of restoring and resuming work on the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline, taking into account the leading role of Martin Griffiths in the Black Sea Initiative.
The parties also discussed the implementation of the package of Istanbul agreements, which are designed to improve global food security and provide assistance to needy countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
On the other hand, the parties reviewed the current situation in Syria, focusing primarily on solving urgent humanitarian problems, overcoming the consequences of the devastating earthquake that hit its territory in early February.
Vershinin emphasized the importance of ensuring access to all those in need in the Syrian territories in agreement with Damascus on the basis of Security Council resolution No. 2672.
Vershinin also hinted at the need to provide assistance without discrimination, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, in strict accordance with international humanitarian law and the principles enshrined in UN General Assembly resolution 46/182.
