Russian footballer banned from entering Romania due to citizenship

The official website of the Portuguese futsal club Benfica reported that its Russian player Ivan Chichkala was banned from playing a match in Romania in the Champions League due to citizenship problems.

Ivan Chichkala has been playing for the Benfica team since August 2020, scored 30 goals in a T-shirt in 37 games of the season (2021-2022), and on May 24 extended his contract with the Portuguese team until 2025.

Poland banned the entry of the Russian Muhammed-Shabi Suleymanov to participate in the European Conference Cup match with his Israeli team Hapoel Beer Sheva against the Polish club Lihb i Zannan (0:0) on Thursday, October 6.

And the Russian sports website Championate cited an explanation from the press service of the European Football Association (UEFA), which said: “All travel requirements, including visa processing, fall on the shoulders of the participating teams.”
