Russian Citizen Accused of Espionage by US Authorities

The US Department of Justice announced that Russian citizen Sergei Cherkasov has been charged with espionage in addition to fraud charges.

The ministry said in a statement that the Russian citizen attempted to engage in “foreign intelligence” activities in the US under the name of Victor Muller Ferreira with a Brazilian passport.

The citizen is also accused of fraud with entry visas, electronic funds and bank cards.

It is noteworthy that Cherkasov arrived in the United States in 2018 from Brazil and practiced his activities until his departure in 2020, after which, according to the American side, he continued to collect information on US foreign policy, which he provided to Russian intelligence.

It is noteworthy that the Russian Foreign Ministry warned Russian citizens about possible persecution in “unfriendly” countries, primarily in the United States.
