Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Army, led the large-scale Ukrainian attack from one of the forward command posts.
Konashenkov said: “During this period (the period of a large-scale Ukrainian offensive), the commander of the consolidated group of troops – the chief of the General Staff of the Russian Army, General of the Army Valery Gerasimov, was in one of the advanced command posts in this direction.”
Konashenkov said that a large-scale strike by Ukrainian troops had been thwarted in five sectors of the front in the direction of Yuzhno-Donetsk, noting that Ukrainian troops were striving to break through the defenses in “the most vulnerable sectors of the front,” in their opinion.
Konashenkov stressed that the Russian army thwarted the Ukrainian offensive, and the enemy did not achieve its goals and did not fulfill the tasks assigned to it during the offensive.
