Russian-African summit: Talks on Ukraine persist, says Peskov

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that talks about the initiatives of the leaders of African countries to resolve the conflict with Ukraine will continue at the Russia-Africa summit.

Peskov pointed out that there are some themes and issues that can actually be implemented.

An African delegation consisting of Presidents of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, Presidents of Senegal Maki Salla, Presidents of the Comoros Osman Ghazali and Presidents of Zambia Hakinde Hichilema arrived in St. Petersburg yesterday Sunday to meet with President Vladimir Putin. The delegation met last Friday in Kyiv with Volodymyr Zelensky.

To resolve the Ukrainian crisis, the African Peace Initiative was put forward, consisting of 10 points. This concerned security guarantees, the free movement of grain across the Black Sea, the release of prisoners of war and the urgent start of negotiations.

Peskov added: “Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke about this in detail with the delegation. But in general, the dialogue with the African side will continue on the ideas put forward by the members of the delegation, and there are some topics that can be fully implemented. and President Putin spoke on the subject.
