Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev commented on the statement by German Foreign Minister Annalena Borbock that Russia “uses hunger as a weapon.”
“Of course, it’s amazing to hear this from officials whose country kept Leningrad in a blockade for 900 days, as a result of which almost 700 thousand people died of starvation,” Medvedev wrote in his post.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the global food crisis arose long before the start of the special operation in Ukraine, and its causes were, among other things, the coronavirus pandemic and the miscalculation of Western countries. At the same time, Lavrov also noted that the current situation has exacerbated the problem, and Western sanctions have become one of the main reasons for disruptions in food supplies that exacerbated the crisis.
