"Rosatom" Russia takes a new step towards participation in the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Saudi Arabia

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak said that the Russian company Rosatom has submitted the necessary documents to participate in a tender for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“Documents have been sent for a tender for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Saudi Arabia,” Novak wrote in an article for the Energy Policy magazine of the Russian Ministry of Energy.

In October last year, Novak disclosed Rosatom’s participation in a tender for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where the possibility of building a nuclear power plant of small or medium capacity was studied.

Earlier, Novak indicated that Russia specializes in the construction of small blocks of floating and land-based nuclear power plants and is ready to provide Saudi Arabia with relevant proposals in this area if Riyadh shows interest.

In 2017, Moscow and Riyadh signed an agreement on energy and climate, as well as a memorandum of understanding and cooperation in the energy sector. The two countries have also developed a roadmap to expand cooperation between them by investing in many areas, most notably the NEOM urban project, in addition to the areas of artificial intelligence, railways and industry.
