"Rosatom" It is planned to build a gas-cooled reactor for the production of hydrogen

Miron Borgolev, head of Rosatom’s research and innovation block, said that the company plans to implement a project to produce hydrogen at nuclear power plants using a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor.

The statement of the Russian official was made during his participation in the Technoprom-2022 forum, and Borgolev said that Rosatom plans to implement the project by 2030-2032.

He pointed out that this type of reactor is a new type of cooled reactor that runs on helium instead of water, where steam is produced at a very high temperature of about 750-850 degrees.

According to the official, Rosatom expects that the development and launch of the project will take about ten years.

“We anticipate that we will be able to start this project somewhere by 2030-2032. The reactor contains methane, but it will not be necessary to burn most of this methane to obtain the required temperatures and thus reduce the carbon footprint,” he said. .
