Resolution Passed by US House of Representatives Urging Russia to Free Journalist Gershkovich

The US House of Representatives passed a resolution calling on Russia to release Wall Street Journal correspondent Ivan Gershkovich, who was detained by Russian security services on charges of espionage.

The House of Representatives voted unanimously in favor of the resolution on Tuesday, with 422 MPs supporting the resolution without votes against.

The decision contains an appeal to the administration of US President Joe Biden to raise the issue of Gershkovich’s release in all contacts with representatives of the Russian authorities.

The House of Representatives is expected to vote this week on a similar resolution concerning another US citizen detained in Russia on espionage charges, Paul Whelan.
