Representatives of the new republics in the Federation Council are appointed within two weeks from the date of accession.

Senator from Crimea Sergei Tsykov said that members of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation can be appointed from the Donetsk, Lugansk republics and liberated regions within 10-15 days from the date of their accession to Russia.

The parliamentarian added: “Members of the Federation Council (senators) can be appointed quickly, within 10-15 days from the moment the two republics join Russia.” Noting that these regions have elected presidents and legislatures.

“Members of the Russian Senate will also be appointed from the executive authorities of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions within 10-15 days,” Tsikov added.

The senator recalled that after the annexation of Crimea to Russia, he himself received the position of a member of the Russian Senate within 10 days.

The leaders and presidents of the Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson republics arrived in Moscow on Wednesday to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and complete the legal process for these regions to become an integral part of Russia.

It is reported that on September 23-27, a referendum was held in the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, Kherson region and the liberated territories of the Zaporozhye region, in which the majority of the population voted for joining Russia. On Wednesday, the leaders of these regions sent an official appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request to accept the territories into Russia.
