Rejecting Sanctions and Calling for Peaceful Dialogue in Ukraine: A Statement from Chinese Foreign Minister

Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang on Thursday, during a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, rejected Western sanctions and expressed support for a peace process to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry statement posted on the ministry’s website following a meeting of diplomats in New Delhi, where the G20 foreign ministers met, said: “The two sides exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis, and Qin Gang indicated that Beijing supports the use of political methods to resolve the conflict. in Ukraine, opposes escalation measures.” Stressing that: “China supports all efforts to promote peaceful dialogue.”

The Chinese Foreign Minister also pledged that his country would continue to play a constructive role in finding a solution to the Ukrainian crisis.
