Real Madrid triggers Ballon d’Or clause in Benzema’s contract

Spanish newspaper AS confirmed on Wednesday that Real Madrid had reached an agreement with French striker Karim Benzema on the details of a contract extension.

Benzema’s contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of the current season, while he has several foreign offers to leave the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, most notably from the Saudi league.

According to the newspaper AS, Benzema has already extended his contract with Real Madrid until the summer of 2024.

She added that Real Madrid have verbally agreed with the French striker to extend his contract for an extra season if he wins the Ballon d’Or.

Benzema had already been awarded the Ballon d’Or last year, so the Royal Club began the procedure for extending his contract.

Real Madrid, via a tweet posted on Wednesday on his Instagram account, hinted that the official announcement of Benzema’s contract extension would be tomorrow, Thursday, where he wrote: “Madridists, tomorrow we have a surprise for you.” Something is coming.”
