Real Madrid on Thursday rejected an offer from UEFA to compensate fans affected by the chaos outside the Stade de France stadium in Paris during last season’s Champions League final.
And UEFA announced last Tuesday that it was compensating all Liverpool fans, in addition to other fans who were affected by the chaos leading up to the Real Madrid-Liverpool match, to enter the stadium as kick-off was delayed 37 minutes in the capital France.
Real Madrid, who won the 1-0 final against Liverpool on 28 May 2022 and witnessed tear gas harassment by the police, has said it will not cooperate with UEFA’s plan.
“Unfortunately, our club believes that the UEFA offer officially announced last Tuesday is not enough,” Real Madrid said in a statement.
“They (offers) consist solely in paying the cost of the ticket, which is also subject to the fulfillment of a number of requirements, including the provision of confirmation of the time of arrival at the stadium,” he added.
In an independent report, the game’s Confederation was heavily criticized for events that took place off the field.
“Given the conclusions of the experts,” the capital club continued, “they expected compensation in accordance with the seriousness of the events and the accusation of UEFA, as well as the fact that “all the fans suffered an unacceptable delay at the start of the match.”
“In addition, there was an unacceptable lack of security both when entering and leaving the stadium, as well as additional losses such as theft, attacks and threats,” Real Madrid stressed.
He added: “For this reason, Real Madrid have decided not to cooperate with the conditional compensation procedures proposed by UEFA, which we ask to rectify the situation and take full responsibility.”
