Production stopped at "Second" The largest oil field in the world

The Kazakh National Oil Company has confirmed that production at the Kashagan offshore field in Kazakhstan has been halted due to a gas leak that halted production at the field, which was once the world’s second-largest oil field.

The company said in a statement that the gas leak was discovered the day before yesterday, Wednesday, at the Pulashak onshore processing plant, which was safely shut down to allow facilities to “depressurize the ignition system.”

Regarding the aftermath of the leak, the statement said, “No damage was caused by this incident,” noting that “work is currently underway to resume production activities.”

It is estimated that the Kashagan field, located in the Caspian Sea 50 miles off the coast of western Kazakhstan, contains between 9 and 13 billion barrels of recoverable oil.
