President of Uzbekistan visits Nukus again

Press Secretary of the President of Uzbekistan Sherzod Asadov said that the head of state Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Sunday again arrived in the capital of the Autonomous Republic of Karakalpakstan, the city of Nukus.

Asadov pointed out that the situation in the region, where riots broke out two days ago due to amendments to the country’s constitution, has stabilized.

Asadov wrote on his Telegram channel: “The President.. is in the city of Nukus of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.”

According to him, this morning the head of state held a video conference with all regions of Karakalpakstan.

Asadov added: “The heads of the districts, as well as the heads of law enforcement agencies of these regions, informed the head of state about the measures taken to ensure the safety of citizens and strengthen law and order.

It was noted that the situation there stabilized after yesterday’s speech by the head of state and returned to normal.”

Previously, Mirziyoyev visited Nukus on Saturday after unrest in the city on Friday. During the visit, the Head of State proposed to keep the clause on the sovereignty of Karakalpakstan in the country’s constitution.
