Preparing for the World Cup. Portugal flex their muscles with a landslide victory over Nigeria

Portugal finished their preparations for the Qatar 2022 World Cup with a convincing 4-0 victory over Nigeria despite the absence of their veteran captain Cristiano Ronaldo due to a stomach infection.

The 2016 European champion opened the scoring after a huge effort from the Manchester United players when Diogo Dalo passed on the golden plate to Bruno Fernandes, who easily followed him into the net in the ninth minute.

Fernandes doubled his country’s lead with a penalty his team received from a handball in the box and scored his second personal goal also in the 35th minute.

Nigeria squandered an opportunity to cut the lead after Emmanuel Dennis missed a penalty, so the Portuguese came back and reinforced their lead with two goals from Gonzalo Ramos and Joao Mario in the 82nd and 84th minutes.

Portugal will kick off their World Cup campaign next Thursday against Ghana, who had previously eliminated Nigeria in the final round of African qualifiers for the World Cup in Qatar.
