According to Mat Piscatella of Circana, “PlayStation 5 hardware unit sales have now surpassed those of PlayStation 4 on a time-aligned basis (29 months in the market),”

This indicates that even if the total sales of the PS5 are not yet comparable to those of the PS4, the PS5 is now on track to outsell the PS4, given the time still available. According to VGChartz, as of April 1, the PlayStation 4 (PS4) has sold 117.01 million copies, while the PlayStation 5 (PS5) has sold 34.47 million.

According to Piscatella, sales of the PlayStation 5 influenced overall hardware sales in the United States for March. He claims that the PS5 was the best-selling console in terms of both units and revenue for March and the entirety of 2023 up to this point. The data was obtained from Circana.

According to Piscatella, spending on accessories increased by 1% in March over the same month last year, totaling $239 million. The PlayStation 5 Dual Sense Edge Wireless Controller Black was the month’s best-selling gamepad in dollar sales. Gamepads had the most dollar sales of any accessory category.
