US authorities announced the arrest of actor Jonathan Majors in New York on charges of assault and sexual harassment.
The NYPD said that Majors, the star of recent films Creed 3 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania, was involved in a domestic altercation with a 30-year-old woman.
An NYPD spokesman said in a statement: “The victim reported the attack to the police … and the 33-year-old actor was arrested … The victim suffered minor head and neck injuries and was taken to the area hospital. and is in stable condition.
An NYPD spokesman confirmed to The Associated Press that he was no longer in police custody as of Saturday evening.
A spokesperson for the Majors denied that the actor had committed any wrongdoing. “He did nothing wrong,” he told the agency on Saturday. “We look forward to clearing his name and clarifying this matter.”
Majors lawyer Priya Chaudhry announced on Sunday that her client was the victim of an altercation with a woman he knew, blaming the incident on the woman, who is in an “emotional crisis.”
Chaudhry said there was evidence exonerating Major, including video footage from the car in which the incident occurred, testimony from the driver and others who saw and heard the clip, and most importantly, two written statements by a woman denying the allegations.
