Parliamentary Amendments to Turkey’s Constitution Planned by Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that he intends to put his proposal to amend the constitution to a vote in parliament.

Erdogan said in an address to the people following the first meeting of the new government on Tuesday: “We will once again submit to parliament our proposal to amend the constitution, the importance of which we spoke before the elections.”

Earlier, Erdogan said that Turkey needs a new constitution that guarantees the country’s further development, and that the preparation of constitutional amendments continues.

Erdogan considered that the current Turkish constitution, adopted in 1982, “does not meet the challenges of the time”, despite a number of amendments to it.
