Olympic President of Russia: Forcing our athletes to violate the laws of their country

The President of the Russian Olympic Committee, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, said that the call to allow Russian athletes to participate in international competitions under neutral banners violates the laws of their country.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach called for Russian athletes to be allowed to participate in international competitions if they distance themselves from the situation in Ukraine.

Stanislav Pozdnyakov wrote a “blog” on his Telegram channel in which he stated: “Sanctions against Russian sports are still in effect. In this situation, artificially created on the recommendations of the IOC Executive Board, our athletes are forced to actually violate the laws of their country and the Olympic Charter.”

The head of the Russian Olympic Committee also noted that it can be concluded from Bach’s statement that he offers Russian athletes to exchange their citizenship and civic position for the humiliating neutral status of participation in the international arena.
