Former England striker Wayne Rooney has officially signed with DC United to oversee his training after defending his color as a player between 2018 and 2019, the club announced on Tuesday.

“Wayne is a football legend and one of the most passionate and dynamic coaches in our sport,” said club president Jason Levin.

“Early in his coaching career, he proved he could manage a team in a crisis,” he added.

For his part, the club’s head of football operations, Dave Kasper, said: “Rooney is a winner and a competitor. His way of working and what he imposes on himself and his players is second to none.”

And the former Manchester United striker will replace Argentine Hernan Lozada, who was suspended from his duties just 6 games before the start of the season due to the team’s poor results.

D.C. United also failed to return to a winning streak following Losada’s departure as they currently sit second to last in Eastern Province with 17 points in 17 games.

The capital club, led by acting coach Chad Ashton last Friday, suffered a crushing defeat from Philadelphia Union with a score of 0:7.

Rooney had his first adventure on the bench after a long stadium career, with Derby County, which he left at the end of June last year, knowing the former England captain had joined Derby County as a player in 2020 after leaving from DC United. where he scored 23 goals in 48 games for the latter in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
