Pioli’s contract extension, which last season led Milan to the title for the 19th time in its history and the first time in 11 years, especially since the 2010-2011 season, came on the eve of the Lombard side hosting the Austrian Salzburg. in the last sixth round of the Champions League group stage.
The 57-year-old Pioli has the opportunity for the first time since the 2013-2014 season to lead Milan to the final prize of the prestigious continental competition, having won the title seven times.
A draw with Salzburg is enough for Milan to reserve the second map for Group E and catch up with leaders Chelsea.
