Official.. Fenerbahce announces departure of German star Ozil

Turkish club Fenerbahce announced on Wednesday that former Germany international Mesut Ozil will leave the team two years before his contract expires after he was dropped from the first team at the end of March last year.

Fenerbahçe indicated in a tweet via their Twitter account that “the contract between our club and Mesut Özil will end by mutual agreement.”

The former Arsenal player joined the Turkish club less than a year and a half ago, but was expelled from the squad in the spring after a conflict with management.

And the new coach of Fenerbahce, the Portuguese Jorge Jesus, had previously hinted with his arrival in early June last year that he would not reconsider the decision to immediately expel Ozil.

Several Turkish media have reported that the Turkish-born player is in talks to join Basaksehir, Turkish league champions in 2020.
