Novak: "Gazprom" Negotiations with China on a gas pipeline through Mongolia continue

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak said that Gazprom continues negotiations with China on the construction of the Soyuz Vostok gas pipeline through the territory of Mongolia, emphasizing the importance of the project.

Novak said: “We certainly consider this project as one of the main projects in the development of cooperation with our partners, with the People’s Republic of China. Now all the necessary work is being done, negotiations are underway between Gazprom and Chinese partners. You know, a feasibility study and a gas pipeline project are being implemented. Through Mongolia. That is, the project is very promising, and we believe that in conditions of increased gas consumption it will be in demand.

In November 2022, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko announced that the design work on the Soyuz Vostok gas pipeline would be completed in 2023.

In January 2022, Gazprom announced the signing of a protocol with Mongolia based on the results of a feasibility study for the Soyuz Vostok gas pipeline project, which will become a continuation of the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline, and in February of the same year, the gas pipeline project entered the design stage.

The gas pipeline will allow China to supply about 50 billion cubic meters of gas annually, and the total length of the gas pipeline through the territory of Mongolia is 962.9 km.

Alexey Miller, the head of Gazprom, noted that at the end of 2022, the holding exceeded its annual obligations for gas supplies to China, as more contracts were regularly supplied, and as of January 1, it reached a completely new level. the level of supply to that country.

In the coming years, Gazprom’s total exports to China will reach 48 billion cubic meters of gas per year, and taking into account the gas pipeline through Mongolia, almost 100 billion cubic meters per year.
